To be farmers is even harder today. We have been over this, but we gather it is important to point out how much work is behind any production.

In this way we can appreciate even more quality and efforts of anyone of the team.

This 2022 is a huge fight versus heating and drought climate.

To handle this extreme situation we have been adapting our vineyar.

So more leaves on the canopy in order to enhance vegetation vigor and to stimulate grapes production.

This work is fully manual and has us working around the clock.

In order to cretate a sort of big umbrella of leaves we do not use hedging and topping, but  we wraps vines shoots around the steel wires.

Fo example we avoid deleafing, but we remove some leaves closed to the clusters and we cut some of them only to mantain at optimum vegetal material efficiency.

Last but not least it is very important to work often soils and it is very useful for the proper umidity of Villa Saletta terroir.

At this stage 2022 looks very interesting in terms of quality and we are confident to have very good grapes closed to the harvest.

For the rest of the estate you can easily find out same criticism.

Even in the olive grooves we have stress from the warm temperature and we hope to meet as soon as possible water. Let’s finger crossed and waitfor some rains.

Poplar trees are growing fast and heating is more a problem for new plantation . that’s why we are sprayng water and use irrigation.

Also woodlands are awaiting for rainfalls and truffles as well.

Nevertheless We’ll never give up and we’ll go forward looking at huge work done during last years and big results achieved.

In the cellars we have finally done 2019 blends and we are closing last bottling .

The importance of a virtuous ecosystem

Once again we have to deal with climate change. Remembering the warm May 2003 we have to face a huge heating. Especially in the field the work is pretty hard!

The growth of vegetation is rushing faster and faster and it looks like July situation.

But having said that, let’s work harder in order to protect plants and preserve quality.

In the vineyards buds selection is at the end. Deep soil tillage is necessary as we can maintain soil moisture and softness.

With this climate condition temperatures increased enabling perfect flowering and setting of the berry. Quantity is a lot which means to ensure the nutrients are focused on the growing fruits, pick out any weaker as early as possible.

In the olive orchards, a great flowering is booming as well as in the poplars. For this big plants we are tilling soil. Same process as per vines. We need a proper monitoring of Lepidoptera, an insect greedy for the wood.

Therefore, let us be guardians of the groves.

Crops are growing healthy and lush and finally in woodlands we go on and on restoring buildings and roads after the cutting.

In the cellar we have blended 2019 vintage and been decanting wine from the barrels.

Each barrels is under a strict cleaning protocol in order to avoid microbiological issues.

This is needed to protect from contamination and to have clean wines.

We have bottled new 2021 still rosè: in our eyes it is just  terrific!

The importance of a virtuous ecosystem

Tasting wines around people, attending events and exhibitions… lots of things taken as granted and unimaginable looking at the last two years.

Finallly there is the light at the end of the tunnel and world wine fairs are starting over.

Villa Saletta was at two of the most important: Anteprime Toscane and Vinitaly.

Anteprime di Toscana are large-scale Wine – events and take place in Florence once a year and include all the most important appellations of the region Toscana, best wineries and premiers of the new vintages.  Due to the pandemic, they have been taken place in March rather than in September. Villa Saletta was there with Chianti Superiore at Chianti Lovers events and with IGT Toscana at Altra Toscana.

We are so proud of our wines since we received top rates and scores by journalist and wine expert.

Vinitaly was also another good chance to showcase our range. It is the biggest events in Italy and many professionals are used to taste and to form good relations.

The result is very good and we are starting to spread out the range in other foreign countries.
